Micah Parsons retweets JJ Watt going after Jerry Jones for taking 'dig' at Cowboys stars

Jerry Jones opened a few eyes during a Monday press conference ahead of Dallas Cowboys training camp. NFL legend JJ Watt was one of them, not enjoying how Jones called out a couple of his star players’ injury history. One was Micah Parsons, who is right in the middle of a contract negotiation with the franchise.
Watt sarcastically went after Jones via social media. You can tell he is not thrilled with the Cowboys’ owner/general manager’s comments, also talking about Dak Prescott missing most of the 2024 season despite being one of the highest-paid players in football.
“Anytime you can publicly take a dig at your star quarterback and your star pass rusher simultaneously, right before the season begins, you just gotta take it,” Watt said via X. “Nothing makes guys want to fight for you more than hearing how upset you are that they got hurt while fighting for you.”
Turns out, Parsons may have the same thought as Watt. He actually retweeted Watt shortly after the original post was sent, caught by Mike Leslie of WFAA in Dallas.
Having potential contract extensions to discuss this time of year is becoming normal for the Cowboys. Last offseason, most of the chatter involved Prescott and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb. Both eventually got done but at what felt like the last possible moment. In the case of Prescott, news broke as Dallas was on the field warming up for Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.

In those negotiations, Jones has admitted there is no sense of urgency to get them done. The same appears to be true about the Parsons contract. While No. 11 showing up for training camp does stick out for Jones, he is going to let the process play out.
“There’s no anticipation at all,” Jones said via The Athletic‘s Jon Machota. “We’re just working with what it is. It’s not uncommon for me and not anything there’s a lot of angst over. He’s doing a real good job of being here. And that’s important. … We are where we are. And I sign the check. Period.”
Training camp for the Cowboys officially begins Tuesday in Oxnard. Aug. 9 will be the team’s first preseason game, something you might not expect Parsons to play in, even if the contract situation is figured out. Sept. 4 is the biggest date of them all, being the season opener in Philadelphia on Super Bowl banner night against the Eagles.
