Micah Parsons to appear at training camp, puts contract extension 'in the owner's hands'

Players entering mandatory training camp usually mean a holdout is coming. But not in the case of Micah Parsons, who declared he would be there on Tuesday. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer previously expressed his confidence in Parsons showing up and his opinion turned out to be true.

However, there will not be a contract extension signed by the time training camp begins. Parsons appears to be 100% focused on helping the Dallas Cowboys win a long-eluded Super Bowl moving forward. He put the negotiations on owner/general manager Jerry Jones.

“I will be there!” Parsons said via X. “I haven’t missed a mini camp in 4 years! Even though the contract is not done, I have teammates and a playbook! I’m preparing as if I will be on the field the first week of camp! But it’s in the owner’s hands. I’m ready to win a Super Bowl!”

If Jones is the one running the show, a few months may pass before a deal is struck. We saw this same type of high-profile contract negotiations with both Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb last offseason. Lamb’s deal got done right after training camp ended, while Prescott’s was announced moments before the Week 1 opener against Cleveland.

Parsons will have his entire focus on football now. Not many people in the NFL are as competitive as him, continually stating his desperate desire to get his hands on the Lombardi Trophy. And with another season upon us with training camp, the days of personally focusing on his contract are over.

ESPN insider still expects Micah Parsons deal before season begins

Parsons is destined for a huge contract extension with the Cowboys. The only question is when, not if, he’ll get his money from Jerry Jones and company.

“He’s likely to get an extension this offseason that makes him the highest-paid defensive player in the league,” ESPN’s Dan Graziano stated, via Get Up on Friday. “We know that he and Jerry Jones have had conversations. We know the deal is not yet done. We know that Micah has been at some, not all, of the voluntary portion of this year’s off-season, but Micah Parsons, still looking for a deal.

“This is a deal, I think both sides agree, will get done at some point this off-season. I don’t think we have to worry about a Micah holdout in training camp.”
