Micah Parsons tops NFL jersey sales in the month of October

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons is not only one of the most dominant and destructive forces in the National Football League, he’s also one of the most popular. The second-year linebacker became the first defensive player to top the monthly jersey sales in the NFL this year, according to the NFL Shop. Fans were snapping up his No. 11 jersey in the month of October and clearly, they couldn’t get enough.

He scored the first touchdown of his NFL career last weekend

The Dallas Cowboys selected Micah Parsons with the 12th overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State, and they haven’t been disappointed. Parsons has done a bit of everything on defense since entering the league, immediately becoming one of the league’s top defensive stars. One of the things Parsons was lacking entering last weekend, though, was an NFL touchdown.

On Sunday, Parsons got into the endzone and scored the first touchdown of his NFL career. Parsons recovered a fumble in the third quarter, and he went untouched into the endzone for the score to extend the Cowboys lead.

After the game, Parsons had a great reaction to his first score. He admitted that he got tired and barely made it to the endzone, and he had to turn it back to his high school days to make it in.

“I dropped back, was running to the ball,” Parsons said. “Saw the ball come loose and I was able to hop on it. I realized no whistle was blown, I went back to my high school days and just tried to get into the endzone.

“There was a moment of hesitation. I wasn’t sure what to do and my teammates started talking about, ‘Go, go, go!’ So then I was just like alright, I’m gonna go. I barely made it, I was tired after that.”

Parsons made sure to keep his first touchdown ball

After Parsons secured the touchdown, he wasn’t letting go of the ball he scored with. He will be holding onto that one, even after he briefly considered giving the ball away after scoring.

“Oh, immediately,” Parsons said on how long he took to secure the ball afterwards. “I wasn’t letting that out of my possession at all. I dropped it, I said ‘Oh no, where’d it go?’ I actually thought about giving it away, but I said no, no, no, no, no.”

Through eight games this season, Parsons has totaled 36 tackles, nine tackles for loss, 14 quarterback hits, eight sacks, two passes defended, two forced fumbles, and now the fumble recovery for the touchdown.

That is coming off of a dominant rookie season in 2021 where he totaled 84 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 30 quarterback hits, 13 sacks and three forced fumbles.

The Cowboys are now 6-2 on the season after defeating the Chicago bears 49-29 on Sunday. Next up is a bye week in Week 9, before hitting the road in two consecutive weeks with trips to Green Bay and Minnesota.
