Micah Parsons is at Dallas Cowboys training camp on Saturday despite having requested a trade the day before. Parsons was in street clothes instead of pads amid the uncertainty surrounding his future with the franchise.

Despite the request, Parsons is still a part of the Dallas football team regardless of his request. He will still get fined if he’s not on-site at training camp.

Parsons cited stalled contract negotiations and silence from the Cowboys brass as the main reasons for his decision to ask to be traded. He posted an at-length message on social media explaining his decision.

“Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here,” Parsons wrote. “I no longer want to be held to closed-door negotiations without my agent present. No longer want shots taken at me for getting injured while laying it on the line for the organization, our fans and my teammates. I no longer want narratives created and spread to the media about me.

“… I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to [Cowboys CEO] Stephen Jones personally.”

The two-time All-Pro pass rusher revealed that he initially approached the Cowboys about a contract extension after the 2023 season. Dallas “did not want to start any negotiations at that point.” Fast forward to this past March, Parsons met with Jones to talk about leadership. Parsons said the conversation shifted into a discussion about his contract. He informed Jones that his agent, David Mulugheta, would reach out.

When Mulugheta reached out, he was told the deal was “pretty much already done” — this wasn’t the case. From there, the Cowboys “went silent,” according to Parsons. Up until he requested the trade on Saturday, Parsons had heard nothing from the Dallas brass.

However, there has been some debate over whether Dallas will actually move Parsons. He will command high trade value, meaning at least one first-round draft choice and more. According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, potentially even two first-rounders. Fowler said that while many teams are wary of signing a player only to have to turn around and pay them high-dollar contracts, just about every team that can will be willing to take on his massive upcoming contract.

Entering the final year of his rookie deal, it’s clear that Parsons wants his contract figured out. Whether that’s is Dallas or elsewhere, ultimately remains to be seen.
