Micah Parsons trade request: Jerry Jones reveals level of 'urgency' with Cowboys star

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has not spoken with Micah Parsons since the star linebacker issued his trade request, Jones told reporters Tuesday. When asked when the situation becomes urgent, he said, “I stay urgent.”
Parsons has been with the Cowboys since going public with his trade request Friday, but still is not practicing. He is seeking a long-term deal that would likely make him the highest-paid non-quarterback, though no deal has come together. Meanwhile, the pass-rush market has shifted multiple times.
Jones said he has talked with Parsons’ representatives, but not the Pro Bowl linebacker himself since the request. In the meantime, the former Penn State star is still searching for a fresh contract.
“We will work through it or we won’t work through it,” Jones said Tuesday, via The Athletic’s Jon Machota.
Parsons and the Cowboys held talks about a new contract in the spring, but nothing came together as the offseason program rolled along and training camp approached. Things went to a new level last week when Parsons went public with his request to be traded.
Meanwhile, Myles Garrett and T.J. Watt both became $40 million-per-year players, which shows where the market stands. The expectation was Parsons would also reach that threshold. Instead, the situation is taking another turn.

Jerry Jones pushes back on questions about process
Fan frustration is growing as Jones and the Cowboys take another contract negotiation down to the wire. They did so last year with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, paying top dollar for both. Neither player requested trades, though, which is what makes Micah Parsons’ situation different.
As for whether he worries about the idea of waiting too long to sign players, Jerry Jones pushed back. He pointed out how many times players redo their deals and defended his current process.
“Let me say this just right,” Jones said during an exclusive interview with USA Today. “I wouldn’t be doing my job if I didn’t do it that way. I should be trying to get the most value for the Cowboys. I’ve seen players I wish we had renegotiated their contracts earlier and I’ve had several that I was sorry I renegotiated their contract earlier. The idea that if you wait there’s more money (spent) forgets that in between that wait, you get to evaluate and you frankly get to see if you’re dealing with the same physical elements of it.”
