Micah Parsons trade request: Jerry Jones takes shot at Dallas Cowboys star's back injury amid negotiation

Micah Parsons is still on the practice field for the Dallas Cowboys despite requesting a trade on Friday. While Parsons is not going through drills, he is showing up and, at the very least, supporting teammates. A smart way to avoid fines throughout the process.
Injury might be a small part of the reasons Parsons is not completely out there too. When speaking to the media at the beginning of training camp, he revealed a back issue bothering him. Insert Jerry Jones, who took a shot at Parsons’ injury when asked if he’s happy to see his star player on the field Saturday.
“I wish the back would get better,” Jones said via Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News.
To this point in his career, injuries have not been a major storyline for Parsons. He missed time this past season, only playing in 13 games. He did not miss a beat when it came to the numbers department, getting to double-digit sacks for the fourth time in as many years.
But Parsons did show up to Oxnard with something bothering him. He claimed to need “rehab” for some back tightness. Nothing appeared to be too serious, especially well distanced from the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.
“It’s something that I feel is going to hold me back, so I just need to rehab,” Parsons said on July 22.

Now, as contract negotiations with Parsons reach a new level, it gets brought up by Jones. His stance on potentially trading the star player has not changed, maintaining he will be on the 2025 roster. Maybe even further, having some options with the franchise tag moving forward.
“At some point you do have to recognize that we’re talking about under contract here, which can diminish if somebody makes a new contract,” Jones said. “It makes you wonder if they’ll honor that contract. … And we’re under contract here.”
Now, the date everyone has circled on their contract is Sept. 4. Dallas is in Philadelphia for the season opener against the Eagles. Everybody in the football world will be watching as it’s the first NFL game of the season. A Super Bowl banner will be raised as well after the Eagles added another Lombardi Trophy to the trophy cabinet.
Whether or not Parsons is out there will be a major storyline. For most, the issue at hand will be the contract dispute. Jones might be a little more concerned about the back.
