Shedeur Sanders just went through a historic slide in the 2025 NFL Draft. The Colorado product was viewed as highly as a first-round pick before actually hearing his name called in the fifth round via the Cleveland Browns. It’s the story that dominated headlines from Green Bay, giving all kinds of reactions.

One of those was Tom Brady, who worked through this year’s draft with the Las Vegas Raiders. While Brady himself did not publicly provide his thoughts, FOX’s Michael Strahan spent time with his co-worker over the weekend. If there is anybody in football history Sanders can learn from, Brady is the guy.

“I spent time with Tom Brady this past weekend and we watched the draft and as Tom said, ‘He’s an example, it doesn’t matter when you’re picked,’” Strahan said via the New York Post.

Brady was famously selected in the sixth round by the New England Patriots with the No. 199 overall selection out of Michigan. When he finally got his chance as the starting quarterback, the opportunity was fully seized. Nobody in NFL history is more accomplished and many consider Brady the greatest of all time.

Some wondered if Brady would be the one taking Sanders under his wing. The Raiders are in search of a quarterback and there was a preexisting relationship there. But Las Vegas passed on Sanders multiple times before eventually taking two quarterbacks out of the FCS ranks.

Even Cleveland took a QB before finally taking Sanders. Oregon‘s Dillon Gabriel will be a part of the Browns’ rookie class, giving them five players at the position heading into training camp.

Almost everyone is going to get a look as the main guy, eventually. Strahan has faith Sanders will deliver once the stage is set.

“Economically, this may have hurt Shedeur Sanders, but opportunity-wise it didn’t — because he’s on a team where I think he has a good shot at making a difference,” Strahan said. “And I think the kid is going to be a great player… I think the Browns did a good thing, and I think they’re going to enjoy it.”

Strahan went on to say he did not appreciate the anonymous sources going after Sanders. He wants people to attach their names to quotes if the feedback is going to be negative. Whether or not those reports hurt Sanders once he slid past Thursday, we may never know.
