Facing criticism online for the NASCAR Cup Series race coverage at Kansas Speedway, Mike Joy is defending himself and his colleagues. One issue in particular drew the ire of fans watching the race at home.

Brad Keselowski appeared to be reeling in Chase Elliott for the lead. It was a huge moment for Keselowski after struggling heavily in 2025. The worst start to a season in his career.

Mike Joy, Clint Bowyer, and Kevin Harvick were talking about Keselowski and his run-up to Elliott. Then we all watched as the No. 6 car hit the wall and slowed way down. It took a few seconds for the FOX booth to even react to the incident.

Here is the video and reaction. A bit delayed.

Responding to fan criticism online, Mike Joy defended himself and his NASCAR on FOX colleagues. He had a few thoughts.

“Live TV. You’ve seen photos of our booth. Lots of screens: scoring, replay preview, stats, promos, more and 1/2 [half] the time we’re looking at the track. For 2.5 seconds, we weren’t focused solely on video you were seeing. With 38 balls (cars) in play, that can occasionally happen. Thanks.”

Are you buying what Mike Joy is selling? Was this an honest mistake or was it a real oversight that should be addressed? There is so much going on at all times on the track, it’s not possible to keep up with all of it.

I will say, in defense of Joy, he called out a couple of moments that the TV broadcast had to cut to. His “trouble in Turn 4” line came out once or twice. But the conversation was on Keselowski when this moment happened. Very unusual moment overall.

Mike Joy and FOX ending 2025 season

Sunday at Kansas was the final points-paying Cup Series race on FOX. Mike Joy and the NASCAR on FOX crew are about to head into their offseason. One more weekend to do the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, and then it is time for the beach!

Of course, the Truck Series will remain on FOX/FS1 for the rest of the season. But we won’t see Joy in the booth calling those races. Soon enough, NASCAR fans will have Dale Earnhardt Jr. back in the booth for the Prime Video and TNT Sports part of the schedule.

Mike Joy and the NASCAR on FOX crew have about finished the job for 2025. Will it be a welcome departure from the FOX broadcasts as we get to the next five to ten races? I think many fans will enjoy the change of pace.
