Mike Tomlin provides post-practice injury update on Roman Wilson

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin provided an update on the status of Roman Wilson after the rookie wideout was carted off the field during Tuesday’s practice.
Tomlin said that Wilson hurt his ankle and there’s currently no timetable for how long he may be out.
“It was unfortunate we had an injury today,” Tomlin said. “Roman hurt his ankle on a tackle. And so, we’ll have more information regarding the length of his status in terms of how long he might be out.”
Wilson, Pittsburgh’s third round selection out of Michigan, sustained the injury on a jet sweep. Pittsburgh was expecting Wilson to play a big role in his rookie campaign, so an injury setback is obviously less than ideal.
Wilson led the Wolverines in receiving this past season, hauling in 48 receptions for 789 yards and 12 touchdowns. He earned Second-Team All-Big Ten honors and played a big role in Michigan winning the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Roman Wilson a key member of Steelers’ WR room
Wilson’s injury comes at a time when the Steelers have been linked with several receivers on the trade market. That includes the likes of San Francisco 49ers wideout Brandon Aiyuk. The Steelers currently have a logjam at the receiver position, but no clear No. 2 option next to George Pickens. Pittsburgh notably traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers and released Allen Robinson earlier this offseason. In addition to Pickens, Pittsburgh has Wilson, Van Jefferson, Quez Watkins, Scotty Miller, Calvin Austin III and Marquez Callaway all in the mix.
General manager Omar Khan said this past Thursday that nothing is currently in the works.
“There’s nothing going on right now,” Khan said, via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I guess I’ll just say if there’s an opportunity to have a discussion on somebody that’s out there, somebody that’s cut — not necessarily traded — we’ll look at it. But I assure you our focus is on these 90 guys right now.”
Khan was asked specifically about Aiyuk, who is staging a hold-in during training camp due to his contact status.
“I can tell you amongst the 32 GMs we all talk, we all have conversations,” Khan said. “But believe it or not, it’s still early in the process here.”
