It doesn’t help that the Golden Gophers will play the Buckeyes in its first night game inside Ohio Stadium this week. Ohio State fans will hope leave satisfied, as the Buckeyes won’t host another game until Nov. 1 against Penn State.

The series between these two programs is interesting given the Buckeyes and Gophers report different historic records on their past matchups. Minnesota recognizes the series started in 1921 with Ohio State leading the all-time series 48-7. Ohio State’s record book against Minnesota begins in 1989. Either way, the Buckeyes have dominated Minnesota historically having won 22 of the last 23 matchups.

The last time Minnesota defeated Ohio State was during the 2000-2001 season. Minnesota won 29-17, though the Buckeyes have won the last 13 matchups. The Buckeyes will look to add to that streak this weekend. However, the Gophers will be looking to play spoiler — which could throw a major wrench into the Buckeyes’ hopes of repeating as champions of college football.
