Minor league bat dog runs across field, poops infield in debut game

The Clearwater Threshers had a new bat dog make her debut performance on Friday night. And boy, did she ever make a splash in her first outing with the team. Things didn’t go quite as well as they planned, Lily didn’t even pick up a bat, decided to run around the infield, and take a massive poop on it.
It’s certainly one of the more hilarious performances by a bat dog we’ll ever see.
It’ll be interesting to see what Lily does in her second performance with the Threshers. She definitely cemented her place as dog of the weekend on the internet. That one will be extremely tough to top.
Their previous dog, Layla, retired recently after six years of service with the team. Both dogs took the field in the middle of the third inning on Friday night.
After the mess from the dog was cleaned up, the game eventually finished, and Dunedin defeated Clearwater 6-0. The Threshers currently sit at 57-59 overall and Dunedin moved their overall record to 61-55.
The Clearwater Threshers have also been known as the Clearwater Phillies in the past. And they have plenty of famous alumni in the game of baseball. A couple of their all-time greats are Hall of Fame pitcher Pedro Martinez and slugger Jim Thome, who is also in the Hall of Fame.

On July 26, 2009, Pedro Martinez made a rehab start for the Threshers against the St. Lucie Mets at Spectrum Field. He pitched 1 1/3 innings before rain caused the game to be cancelled, erasing the official record of his start. He eventually was moved to the Lehigh Valley IronPigs for his next start.
The Threshers are the Single A affiliate for the Philadelphia Phillies. The team has only won four division titles in their history (since 1985): 1991, 1996, 2007, and 2023.
While it wasn’t a dog, in October of 2022, SMU had a horse run on the field at halftime and poop on the field. That mess took about 15 minutes to clean up. Probably much longer than the mess on Friday night. So, the Threshers have that to be thankful for.
