MLB Network analyst caught on hot mic announcing bathroom break during Draft coverage

On July 9th, MLB began its coverage of the 2023 MLB Draft. There, the league had analyst and former Colorado Rockies general manager Dan O’Dowd on to break down the picks made.
O’Dowd does a good job and is well-respected in the industry. However, he did run into a bit of trouble during the coverage when he had to use the bathroom. That’s pretty normal and, presumably, he didn’t have any issues using the bathroom. The problem was that he was on a hot mic.
In the moment, about two and a half hours into the broadcast, the hot mic caught several people talking about how much longer they had to go. That’s when O’Dowd said, “I’m gonna go to the restroom.”
Nothing wrong with that in all reality. In fact, there have been much more embarrassing and damaging things said on hot mics in baseball history. Only a few years ago, Cincinnati Reds broadcaster Thom Brennaman was caught on hot mic using a homophobic slur, which ultimately cost him his job.
So, it could have been way worse for O’Dowd, but it’s still embarrassing. Nobody wants the world to know their business.

O’Dowd on Wyatt Langoford’s swing
Leading up to the MLB Draft, Dan O’Dowd broke down Wyatt Langford, who was taken fourth overall by the Texas Rangers. In that analysis, he praised Langford for his swing, which he called unique among players.
“He’s a really interesting kid for me, because he’s more of a throwback type of guy for me. Like if you watched games in the ’60s or ’70s or ’80s, his physical approach to the game reminds me of a player from that era. And he has just jumped. He’s a physical freak, like you can see. Like this kid is really strong,” O’Dowd said.
“What I like about him are his short arms. His short arms, I feel, makes him so direct and quick to the ball that he can even be fooled with a pitch and still do damage with it. He looks different than a high pick. Like when you try to do a player comp on him, he looks like a Brian Downing. It’s not a real easy comp but I wouldn’t discount the fact that he also has electric hand speed and he’s very, very direct to the ball and he gets unique lag because it doesn’t really go into a lag position. It’s more from the head directly to the ball. So, he’s like a unicorn. He’s a different looking player.”
