Multiple NFL teams request interviews with Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo

Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo could be an NFL head coach again when the 2025 season kicks off. According to multiple reports, two teams have requested to interview Spagnuolo who is helping the Chiefs prepare for the playoffs.
Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported that the Las Vegas Raiders are requesting an interview with Spagnuolo. Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported that the New York Jets are requesting an interview with the 65-year-old coach.
Spagnuolo, who has been the Chiefs defensive coordinator since 2019, was the head coach of the St. Louis (now Los Angeles) Rams from 2009-2011. He did not have a winning season in his three years with the Rams, leading to his firing following the 2011 season.
While things didn’t work out for Spagnuolo during his first stint as a head coach, it’s not a surprise multiple NFL teams are interested in him now. During his time in Kansas City, Spagnulo has helped the team win three Super Bowls. The defense is strong this season as the Chiefs ranked ninth in total defense (320.6 yards per game) and fourth in scoring defense (19.2 points per game).

In March of last year, Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters that Spagnuolo was close to leaving the team before signing a contract extension. “He was on the last year of his deal and so I think his dream was to become a head coach and still is,” Reid said at the annual league meeting, per Pro Football Talk. “Hopefully, he has that opportunity next year to do that. So, it didn’t work out that way so we just jumped on it, knowing that teams were going to be coming after him.”
Before being the Chiefs defensive coordinator and Rams head coach, Spagnuolo was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants from 2007-2008. In his first season as the DC, Spagnulo helped the Giants win the Super Bowl.
Spagnuolo returned to the Giants in 2015 to be the team’s defensive coordinator. In his three seasons in New York, the Giants reached the playoffs once. Late in the 2017 season, Spagnuolo was named interim head coach and led the Giants to a 1-3 record in the team’s final four games.
