Los Angeles Chargers running back Najee Harris suffered a non-contact injury during the game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday. The injury happened late in the first half as the Chargers were leading 3-0.

The Chargers announced that Najee Harris suffered an ankle injury and was ruled questionable to return. He was then downgraded to out.

Before the injury, Harris had 28 rushing yards on six carries on Sunday. In the first two games of the year, the former Alabama star had nine carries for 33 yards.

Harris signed with the Chargers in March after spending his first four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers. In each of his four seasons in Pittsburgh, the 27-year-old rushed for at least 1,000yards and six touchdowns.

Najee Harris talks about recovering from eye injury

In July, Harris suffered an eye injury during a fireworks mishap and was put on the Non-Football Injury List ahead of training camp. He was on the 53-man active roster to start the year and played in 12 snaps in the season opener against the Kansas City Chiefs.

“It’s a humbling experience,” Harris said earlier this month, per the Chargers’ official website. “I’m still going through it in a way. Just that whole situation shows how things can change with a snap of a finger. It’s a blessing every day that we wake up, and I’m just happy that everybody is safe.”

Harris also talked about what he did to work his way back to the active roster. “Recovering, staying in shape, trying to stay on top of the playbook,” Harris said. “Just trying to have the same resume while being from a different position. Obviously, I was on NFI, so it kind of makes things a little more difficult, can’t be on the field and stuff. Just trying to have the same schedule, just not with the team.”

The Chargers are off to a strong start to the 2025 season, defeating the Chiefs and the Las Vegas Raiders. Last year, the Chargers posted an 11-6 record and clinched a spot in the playoffs.
