The NASCAR Cup Series race at COTA on Sunday was a ratings success for FOX. Per Adam Stern of the Sports Business Journal, FOX got a 2.15 rating and 4.132 million viewers for the COTA race. It’s an increase of 3.310 million from last year, but Stern mentioned that the 2024 COTA race took place in late March.

“That makes the race the most-watched sport(s) event of the weekend, but down from last year’s third points race (Vegas),” Stern wrote on X/Twitter.

This year’s COTA race had its share of excitement, including Kyle Busch trying to hold off Christopher Bell during the final laps. Ultimately, Bell got past Busch to win his second consecutive race of the year.

“Whenever Kyle was leading, I was just trying to be so cautious,” Bell told FOX Sports after the race. “Obviously, we know what happened last year. I didn’t want that to happen. I wanted to pass him clean. He was just doing such a good job at running his race, and he could get off the corners just good enough that I couldn’t get inside of him. But there I started peeking a nose, and he bobbled and allowed me to get out front. Whenever I did, I’m, like, okay, just don’t beat yourself. Those were about the five or six sloppiest laps I’ve ever run.”

When speaking to reporters during his post-race press conference, Bell talked about how the back-to-back wins will build his confidence to get another win at Phoenix or Las Vegas.  “It’s amazing. It’s amazing to be sitting here with more importantly than two wins, ten playoff bonus points. We’re in a pretty good spot right now, and hopefully, we did go into racetracks that are really good for us. Obviously, Phoenix was an amazing show for the 20 car last year in the spring race,” Bell said.

“Yeah, they’re great racetracks for us, and more importantly, they are extremely important racetracks. With Phoenix being the championship event and Vegas being in the Round of 8, they’re two racetracks where you have to be good at if you are going to compete for a championship.”
