Chase Elliott explains passion for Georgia football

Georgia native and NASCAR driver Chase Elliott has been a big fan of the Georgia football program for years, dating back to his childhood.
He recently spoke on The Teardown NASCAR podcast about his love for college football, particularly Georgia. Elliott opened up on where his passion for the Bulldogs comes from.
“I’ve been a fan as long as I can remember. Grew up going to games and stuff. Love watching them,” Chase Elliott said.
Georgia was a really good program throughout Elliott’s childhood, but the Bulldogs are now elite and arguably the top program in the country. Elliott is proud of not only Georgia’s success on the field but also the fact that since he’s been watching, only two coaches have been in charge of the program.
“I mean they were always really solid. They’ve never been just like a bad program. … It’s fun being a fan because they’re good, like for sure. That’s great and I love that aspect,” Elliott said. “But one thing I’m really proud to be a fan of them for, is that they have never been a University or an athletic department to just rotate head coaches in there every single year because they didn’t win the national championship that year.
“Like I hate that. I hate that environment, you know. Like these schools bring in these coaches and they expect them to win like that year or the next year. And if they don’t they’re out the door.”

Chase Elliott was born in 1995 and by the time he started watching Georgia football, Mark Richt was the head coach. Richt was in charge in Athens from 2001-15, before Kirby Smart took over in 2016.
Elliott is a big fan of both of those coaches and thankful for what they have done for Georgia football.
“You had a classy, really good coach in there in Mark Richt, who I thought did a really good job. He was the coach when I started watching,” Elliott said. “He always seemed like a stand up guy who led a great football team.
“Then Kirby came in at the right time and he was geared up and prepped and ready to go to work and kind of took it to the next level. So it’s been fun to not pull for a team that has that type of environment. It just feels natural. It just fits, which has been fun.”
