For some, the quest to add unique pieces of NASCAR history never stops. And on Monday, a piece of Cody Ware‘s bumper made its way onto the Internet for sale.

Ware, of course, went through a serious wreck in the late stages of the race at Chicago. He plowed into a tire barrier going an estimated 93 miles per hour, a violent collision that left two race officials working just outside the catch fence hopping around momentarily.

His bumper was apparently snatched up by one intrepid fan and listed for sale on TikTok. A video showed the beat-up bumper off to prospective buyers. Check it out below.

For Cody Ware, the late wreck ruined an otherwise solid day. He was coming into Turn 6 when his brake rotor blew, leaving him helpless as he careened toward the tire barrier.

On-board telemetry showed he was going about 93 miles per hour while he hurtled toward the tires. The collision was violent and shocked onlookers. Yet NASCAR didn’t throw the caution flag for almost 35 full seconds.

The late timing on the caution flag allowed Shane van Gisbergen to take the white flag and essentially sealed the win for him. Even Cody Ware, who called for help from his car, seemed surprised that NASCAR waited so long to throw the caution.

“Yeah, I mean, especially given the speed of how fast we were going into the barrier. You know, obviously, I’m not going anywhere, there’s not much I can do at that point,” Ware said. “Obviously, at that point, I’m just focused on getting out of the car and getting to a safe spot.

“But thought it was a great race, thought everyone was actually racing really good, really clean all day. For it being on a street course, I think everyone was on their A-game. And so, had a lot of fun today, obviously, a pretty crappy end to the day but looking forward to taking what we learned today and moving on to Sonoma.”

Cody Ware even broke down where things went wrong for him and when he started to notice he might have a major problem. There just wasn’t much he could do at that point.

“Unfortunately, started picking up a left front chatter towards those last couple of laps before the rotor blew,” he explained. “So, not sure if it’s the chicken before the egg, but definitely whatever was going on with that left front is what ended up finally giving in on that car.”

And then the bumper gave way and Cody Ware left behind a piece of memorabilia for a fan. Hey, you have to respect the hustle.
