Bubba Wallace won the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and NASCAR fans showed their support. John Newby of Savage Ventures mentioned that fans chanted “Bubba, Bubba, Bubba” when Wallace was at victory lane. He also said that Wallace’s crew chief, Freddie Kraft, got “Freddie, Freddie, Freddie,” chants when he went to celebrate with Wallace.

Wallace snapped his 100-race winless streak with his victory on Sunday. The 31-year-old led 30 laps, including the last 26, as the race went to double overtime. Wallace also had to battle a rain delay to secure the third race win of his NASCAR Cup Series career.

After the race, Wallace spoke to reporters about his reaction to winning the Brickyard 400. “This one is really cool,” Bubba Wallace said. “I’m wore slap out, if you couldn’t tell. I’m just proud of the team, proud of the effort put in each and every week, people pushing me to be better. The biggest thing that gets lost is believing in self.”

Later in the press conference, Wallace talked about fans at Indianapolis Motor Speedway showing their support for him. “It’s sports, right? You’re going to have people booing, people cheering,” Wallace explained. “I had a guy today call me a punk. I was like, Okay, punks get trophies, I guess. It’s sports. Some different than others, but I definitely heard the cheers, and I appreciated that. It’s something I’ve never — not never — something I’ve paid more attention to in the recent year, years, maybe months. I know there’s a lot of Bubba Wallace fans out there and a lot of support.”

Wallace has been a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series since 2018. He began his career with Richard Petty Motorsports and joined 23XI Racing in 2021. 23XI is co-owned by NBA legend Michael Jordan and NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin. After the race, Hamlin reacted to Wallace getting the win.

“Now they can really focus on the playoffs and obviously not be chasing the 60 car week in and week out or whoever else is on the bubble with them,” Hamlin said about Wallace and the No. 23 team. “This lets them relax and race more freely. They’re not going to have to chase stage points at all these next three or four weeks. That’s such a pain when you’re chasing points.”
