Erik Jones spoke to a couple of NASCAR insiders about the beef between Joey Logano and Ross Chastain after the Chicago race. On the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Jones, Freddie Kraft and Tommy Baldwin weighed in on Chastain contacting Logano and Logano saying that Chastain told him that he intentionally tried to wreck him.

Kraft explained what caused Chastain to seemingly go after Logano, which began with Austin Cindric having issues with his car. “Ross just kind of snapped a little bit there,” Kraft said.

Baldwin then shared his thoughts. “If you look, all eight of those guys were snapping,” he said. They were all snapping. It was a hornet’s nest right there. …It was hard, good racing. It happens.”

“Sometimes at that situation, it takes one nudge, and you’re like, I’m over it,” Erik Jones said. “I’m done with you.” Jones then added, “Sometimes it’s situational. They’re going to start chopping you, and maybe you can lift, but you’re like I’m not going to lift. There’s five laps to go. You’re just going to get wrecked.”

Baldwin reiterated that he thought it was hard racing. Jones then said, “You’re just going as hard as you can. You’re trying to get every position you can at that point. You’re not going to win, right? So you’re like, ‘Alright, I’m going to get the best finish I can. …Right now, that’s just road course racing.

Ross Chastain contacted Joey Logano after a Lap 64 restart. Logano sounded off on Chastain while speaking to his team on the radio and expressed more frustration after the race.

“He admitted he wrecked me on purpose,” Logano told reporters post-race. “He admitted it, which means he should get fined if he admittedly wrecked someone on purpose. That’s not OK. … It’s just typical Ross. He just sees red and does dumb stuff. That’s all. And that’s twice this year on road courses at the end of these things I’ve been cost by Ross. Just over it.”

Chastain finished 10th and Logano finished 11th. Jones, who had a P5 finish at Atlanta last week, earned a P25 finish at Chicago.
