NASCAR jet driers from Pocono Raceway helping to repair I-95 collapse
As the folks in Philadelphia repair the section of I-95 that collapsed last weekend, Pocono Raceway is sending NASCAR jet driers to help. Right now, the road crews are trying to get the section of the road painted. In order to do that, the asphalt has to be dry, and local rain showers have made it difficult.
When you have to get a road dried off in a hurry, there is nothing better than a jet engine. That’s what these driers come equipped with. It wasn’t that far of a drive for the Pocono Raceway trucks to make their way to I-95 in Philly.
Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro was thankful for the help. His team went and contacted the folks at Pocono and made sure the jet dryer made it where it was needed. The Tricky Triangle proving to be beneficial even on its weekends off.
“To rebuild I-95 on time, we need 12 hours of dry weather to complete the paving and striping process,” Shapiro tweeted. “With rain in the forecast, we reached out [to Pocono Racway] for help — and they’re bringing their jet dryer to Philly to help dry this section of I-95 and keep us on schedule.”
This year, the Pocono 400 is on July 23. So, it isn’t like the track needs the jet dryer for another month. The race track was happy to help out. When it comes to marketing and branding, Pocono does it better than most. This is only going to add to the track’s stellar reputation.

Maybe we will get a race as exciting as last season’s when the Pocono 400 rolls around. It was a race full of consequences last year.
Pocono Raceway full of controversy in 2022
If we go back to a year ago, Pocono Raceway was the most controversial race. While Denny Hamlin “won” the race and Kyle Busch came in P2, the after-race inspection of the winner’s car found that Hamlin was not in compliance with the rules. Someone on the Joe Gibbs Racing crew put some tape on the front of the car where it doesn’t go.
That finding led NASCAR to take Kyle Busch’s car as well. In the end, both were disqualified and the win was given to third-place Chase Elliott. The decision to DQ Hamlin was a major one. It was only the second time ever that a Cup Series driver was disqualified after winning a race.
I’m not sure we will see something that wild this season, and I hope that we don’t. However, Pocono has been the home of some fantastic races and finishes in the past. In just a month we will be back in Pennsylvania for another race weekend.
