NASCAR makes change to North Wilkesboro Speedway track after Ryan Preece penalty

NASCAR has made a change ahead of Sunday’s All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro Speedway. After Ryan Preece was penalized for running over the choose V during the All-Star Open and later complained he couldn’t see it, the choose V has been repainted, per Dustin Long of NBC Sports.
Hopefully, there won’t be any confusion during the 250-lap main event for $1 million. But the same couldn’t be said in the open. The earlier Whelen Modified race laid down a ton of rubber on the track, resulting in limited visibility of the choose cone for Preece. Preece lost his P2 track position and a potential spot in the All-Star Race due to the choose cone violation.

He was not happy after the race. He went to the infield, grabbed an actual traffic cone and delivered it to the frontstretch of North Wilkesboro. He spoke to the media, where he expressed his frustration.
“I think it’s a cone that’s nonexistent. So, if you’re gonna, I don’t know… can’t even see it right now,” Preece said, via Matt Weaver of Sportsnaut/Sporting News. “A rule is a rule, I understand that, but I mean, at the end of the day I made a mistake. So, just frustrated with the outcome or the decision.”

Preece has been one of the stories of the season. Driving the No. 60 car in his first season with RFK Racing, Preece is 15th in the points standings. His car has been fast, as it was at North Wilkesboro. Unfortunately, he’ll leave the track wondering what could have been.
“Sorry, I’m just really, really fu*king pissed,” Preece said. “So, I mean that, at least we coulda, a rule is a rule, but… I don’t know.”
