The purses have been revealed for the return of NASCAR to Mexico City. Over the weekend, the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez will be the site of points-paying races for the Xfinity Series and the Cup Series.

According to FOX’s Bob Pockrass, the purse for the Cup Series race is $12,561,250. As for the Xfinity Series race, $2,151,939 is on the line. The money, as well as the chance to win the first race in Mexico City in quite some time, should lead to some incredible action.

To be honest, it’s anyone’s guess who will get the win, especially when it comes to the Cup Series’ Viva México 250. However, many are pointing towards some road course racing savants, like Shane Van GisbergenChase Elliott and Mexico’s own Daniel Suarez

First, Van Gisbergen is thought of as a threat on road courses, but his performance at intermediate tracks has left a bit to be desired. However, he turned in a solid showing in Michigan this past weekend, gaining some momentum after finishing P18 when the checkered flag waved.

With Mexico City coming up this weekend, Van Gisbergen is currently P33 in the overall point standings. He only has one top ten on the season, so a win is more important to him at one of these road courses than anything. He’ll be going for broke at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez.

Meanwhile, Elliott was racing up front throughout this past weekend’s race in Michigan. Then, the final stage came around, and the Hendrick Motorsports star fell off a bit. Still, he managed to come home P15, which is certainly a solid outing.

He doesn’t have a win yet, but Elliott is P5 in the overall point standings at the moment. He’s amassed seven top tens and three top fives. Additionally, Elliott has led 95 laps in 2025. A win in Mexico City would be a landmark moment for him.

Finally, Suarez might be the odd man out at Trackhouse at the end of the season if he can’t get a victory and make a little bit of a run this postseason. He’s been racking up some solid finishes recently, though, and Michigan was more evidence of that, as he came home P14.

Like his teammate Shane van Gisbergen, a win would mean the world to Daniel Suarez. He’s back in P28 in the overall point standings, only notching one top five in 2025. He needs it if he’s going to make the playoffs.

Alas, there’s a bevy of other drivers who could compete for the win this weekend, like Christopher Bell, Kyle Larson and William Byron. Perhaps we’ll get a surprise victory. Regardless, it should be an entertaining weekend at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez for NASCAR’s top two series.
