NASCAR on NBC remembers Sherry Pollex ahead of Texas playoff race

Ahead of today’s NASCAR Playoff race at Texas Motor Speedway, the NBC broadcast took a moment to remember the life and legacy of Sherry Pollex. A fierce advocate for those fighting childhood and ovarian cancers, Pollex lost her own battle with ovarian cancer last Sunday. She was 44 years old.

There have been a flood of memories and thoughts and stories shared in the wake of Pollex’s death. Fans will remember her as the longtime girlfriend of Martin Truex Jr. as well as the work the two did with the foundation they cofounded.

Millions of dollars raised, potentially millions of lives touched, and a legacy that will last forever. In honor of Sherry Pollex, cars have a ribbon decal placed on them. This tribute from NBC before the race was touching.

Following Sherry Pollex’s death, her family released a statement. In the conclusion of that statement, they asked for those thinking of Pollex and the family to join them in honoring her life and legacy.

“Please join our family in thanking God for giving us Sherry, she’s such an incredible expression of love that will live on. We will continue her legacy of love and caring for those in need as she will always be alive in our hearts.”

Not only are there special decals on all the cars this week, there have been so many other great gestures from NASCAR. When she was alive, Sherry Pollex worked to bring the racing community together for great causes for two decades. That work will live on for years to come and has left such a lasting impact.

This was the staement that NASCAR released after her death:
“NASCAR is saddened to learn of the passing of Sherry Pollex, whose fight against cancer and determination to help others through the Sherry Strong Foundation was an inspiration to all who knew her. NASCAR and the NASCAR Foundation’s thoughts and prayers are with Sherry’s family and friends.”

While it is a terribly tragic turn, seeing the love and outpouring of suppot for Sherry Pollex and her family has been inspiring.

A fixture in NASCAR, a warrior against cancer, and a great all around person. Pollex will be remembered for years to come.
