NASCAR will be keeping 'eyes' on Ross Chastain, Joey Logano at Sonoma after Chicago dust-up

After the two drivers had a tit-for-tat on the streets of Chicago, NASCAR is keeping an eye on Ross Chastain and Joey Logano. If those two want to continue this feud on the track, then they better get creative. Any further retaliation could be penalized.

NASCAR has decided not to penalize Ross Chastain after his actions at Chicago. Despite Joey Logano going to the hauler after the race to plead his case, no fines or penalties were handed out.

However, Mike Forde, managing director of racing communications, says officials are watching those two drivers. NASCAR is going to make sure nothing funny or untoward goes down at Sonoma or moving forward.

“I would be fairly surprised if we don’t have conversations with both those drivers, whether that’s going to be together or separately, in Sonoma, to let them know that our eyes will be peeled on both the 1 and the 22 to make sure that nothing unsavory happens to make sure nothing unsavory happens at Sonoma and beyond,” Forde explained on Hauler Talk. “So, that’s where we kind of stand right now.”

NASCAR and the fans watching the race will be very interested to see the 1 and 22 together on the track. Sonoma gets strung out more than Chicago and other road courses. So, I’m not sure we will see any fireworks this weekend. Besides, neither driver wants to pay a fine, either. The days of “boys have at it” are definitely gone.

Ross Chastain has made about everyone mad in the Cup Series garage. He has a reputation, and while he has done a lot to work on that, he is still who he is.

Once one car hits another and then that car hits another, who is to blame? That is the problem with the Ross Chastain incident. Was Joey Logano to blame for hitting Chastain? No. But does Chastain know that in the moment? Also, no.

NASCAR decided not to penalize Chastain or even fine him this week. I’d say that is a good decision at this time. Logano asked for something to be done, given the fact that Chastain apparently owned up to doing it on purpose. NASCAR was not convinced that it was necessary. At least, not this time.

Sonoma is likely to cool things off between the two drivers. Not a lot of chances to get into each other, unless they end up side-by-side on a restart. Then, the gloves could be off.
