The preseason game between the New England Patriots and Green Bay Packers was suspended due to a scary injury to defensive back Isaiah Bolden. Now, the Patriots have released a positive health update on their rookie.

New England announced that Bolden was released from the hospital following several tests and being held overnight. On top of that, Bolden is going to be traveling with the team.

“We thank the medical staff at Aurora Bay Medical Center for their overnight evaluations, as well as the Patriots and Packers medical staffs for their immediate on-field response and care and care in transporting Isaiah to a nearby hospital,” the update read in part.

Within the health update, New England also announced that joint practices for Tuesday and Wednesday that New England had scheduled at Tennessee are cancelled. Instead, the team will hold practice in New England ahead of their final preseason game. That’s because the team chose to stay in Wisconsin overnight instead of immediately returning home after the game.

“The joint practices that were scheduled with the Tennessee Titans on Tuesday and Wednesday are cancelled. The team will train in Foxborough this week and fly to Nashville on Thursday for Friday night’s game.”

The initial injury to Isaiah Bolden was incredibly scary. With a little more than 10 minutes remaining in the game, he went to make a tackle when a fellow Patriots defender went to make the play. Instead, the two collided and Bolden fell to the ground. He was motionless on the field before being transported to the hospital.

Around Bolden, his New England teammates gathered. They were obviously rattled, with many players praying and others in tears. It was shortly after that when both sides decided to end the game then and there.

Bolden began his college career at Florida State in 2018 before transferring to Jackson State for the 2020 season. There, he learned to play defensive back under Deion Sanders. According to the On3 Industry Rankings, he was originally a four-star recruit in the Class of 2018.

Why the Isaiah Bolden injury ended the game

Following the game, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur explained the logic in ending the game early due to Isaiah Bolden’s injury.

“Obviously, a very scary ending to the game right there. Thoughts and prayers to Isaiah Bolden and his family,” LaFleur said.

“It’s a scary situation, one that you never want to see in our game. I thought it was in the best interest of both teams — Coach [Bill] Belichick and I talked on the field — to take the action that we took. There’s a lot of good work that we’ve had over the last couple of days, but it’s hard to think about much of that. Just hope that that young man is going to be OK.”
