New England Patriots to unveil Tom Brady statue at August 8 preseason game

The New England Patriots have six Super Bowl wins that they can thank Tom Brady for. Now, they’re going to honor the legendary quarterback with a statue.
In a new report, it’s come out that the Patriots are going to unveil the statue ahead of their August 8th preseason game against the Commanders. That’s the first time that New England is going to take the field for the 2025 season.
Very few players are good enough to earn a statue, but there’s no doubt that Tom Brady earned his. Widely considered the greatest quarterback the NFL has ever seen, he spent two decades in New England before playing out the final three seasons of his career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, winning another Super Bowl without the Patriots.
Today, Brady has numerous NFL records for a quarterback. That includes his record for 333 games started, 7,753 completed passes, 89,214 passing yards, 649 touchdowns, 46 fourth-quarter comebacks, and 58 game-winning drives.
It was a career that nobody imagined would be possible for Brady when he was selected out of Michigan with the 199th pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Still, passionate and full of determination, he’d replace franchise quarterback Drew Bledsoe in 2001 when he went down with an injury and never gave the job back.

The statue is going to be far from the first time New England has welcomed Tom Brady back home to make sure to honor him. He’s been enshrined in the Patriots Hall of Fame and retired his No. 12 jersey. At his jersey retirement, owner Robert Kraft announced a 12-foot statue of Brady was going to be put up in front of the Patriots Hall of Fame.
Tom Brady would even be asked to be the team’s first “Keeper of the Light.” A new tradition, the Keeper of the Light opens games by ringing a bell on a lighthouse that overlooks Gillette Stadium.
Since Tom Brady left New England, the Patriots have struggled to replace him as the team’s franchise quarterback. Cam Newton filled the role for a season before the team drafted Mac Jones in the first round. Things didn’t work out for him, though, and he’d lose the job and move on. Now, the Patriots are hoping that Drake Maye can become the next franchise quarterback. The preseason game against the Commanders represents the beginning of Maye’s second season with the franchise. Tom Brady, meanwhile, will represent the ideal Patriots quarterback to try and live up to for Maye.
