Report: New twist emerges on Brock Purdy, George Kittle, Fred Warner 49ers contract talks

The San Francisco 49ers’ offseason program begins Tuesday. Suffice to say, it’s been a busy offseason in San Francisco, and things could get even more interesting.
Quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle and linebacker Fred Warner are seeking new contracts. It’s uncertain if any — or all three — will show up for voluntary activities, per Michael Silver of The Athletic. As for Purdy, Silver said there’s been progress on a deal that will “likely” pay him north of $50 million annually. How much progress is the question.
“If Purdy shows up on Tuesday, it’s a sign that he and his agent believe they are very close to striking a deal,” Silver wrote on X. “If he doesn’t, that probably indicates that some significant obstacles remain. As of now, no decision has been made.”
Purdy is just 25 and plays the most important position in football. He’s been to a Super Bowl. Do the 49ers really want to let a young, productive quarterback out the door? The counter argument, of course, is the lack of elite upside to Purdy’s game and perhaps a reliance on Kyle Shanahan‘s offense. But it does sound like the 49ers want him leading the franchise into the future.
“I think we’re going to get the deal done,” general manager John Lynch said last month. “That’s what I believe. We’ll just leave it at that.”

49ers discussing contract extensions with several stars
As for Warner and Kittle, both are nearing the end of their current contracts. San Francisco hasn’t held “substantive talks” with Warner about a possible extension. The 28-year-old’s five-year, $95 million deal is up after the 2026 season. He will likely report, Silver said.
Kittle’s situation is a bit different. His five-year, $75 million deal is up after this season and both sides remain “far apart” on a new deal. For what it’s worth, Lynch has publicly stated his desire to keep Kittle in San Francisco.
“We’ve already talked about it,” Lynch said. “We want George to retire a Niner. He’s one of those guys. He’s a Niner through and through. And so, we want that to become a reality. I think the only thing on that is timing, and that’s no different from what I’ve told George and his agent. So, [there are] some other things that we’re focused on, and George is certainly there. But I think that’s something we want to all see become a reality, including George.”
The 49ers have already seen several of their star players exit the building this offseason. Receiver Deebo Samuel, safety Talanoa Hufanga, linebacker Dre Greenlaw, guard Aaron Banks and cornerback Charvarius Ward are gone. San Francisco will look different next season as they look to make it back to the postseason.
