New York Giants general manager discusses future of Saquon Barkley with New York Giants

Saquon Barkley burst onto the scene his rookie season, electrifying football fans of all teams. However, injuries have dimmed his once bright star.
When Barkley came into the NFL, he was drafted as the No. 2 overall selection in the NFL Draft. Many believed that was simply too steep a price to pay for a running back, but former Giants general manager Dave Gettleman didn’t bat an eye. Now, Gettleman is retired, and Barkley is wondering what his future looks like.
Ultimately, the man who decides will be the new Giants general manager, Joe Schoen. After Gettleman’s retirement, New York embarked on a wide search for their next general manager. In the end, the proud franchise chose the former Buffalo Bills assistant general manager to lead their rejuvenation.
On Wednesday, Schoen had his introductory press conference. Of course, one of the questions on the mind of reporters was what the future of Barkley looks like, and will it be in blue.
“He was in the locker room yesterday, so I got to have a good conversation with him,” revealed Schoen, via SNY. “I’m excited about Saquon. When he came out, he was a rare talent. I know he’s had some injuries, and that comes with that position. We talked a little bit about where we may need to upgrade.
“I think if you upgrade the offensive line, that’s gonna help Daniel [Jones]and it’s gonna help Saquon.”

As you can see, Schoen believes Barkley has the talent to be one of the league’s best running backs. While he’s shown flashes in-between his injury issues, the former Penn State star hasn’t been able to put it all together since his rookie season. Time will tell if he can do so under new leadership.
More on Saquon Barkley, New York Giants
The Giants offense was supposed to be one of the most exciting in the league last season. However, a bad offensive line and clueless coaching staff doomed to one of the league’s worst.
As Joe Schoen enters the fold, there’s talent on the offensive side. First, there’s Barkley — one of the most exciting running backs when healthy. Then, there’s wide receivers Kenny Golladay, Kadarius Toney and Darius Slayton. Finally, quarterback Daniel Jones has shown dual-threat ability when given time.
Still, the wins simply haven’t been there. As Joe Schoen brings a new voice to the franchise, perhaps he can figure out how to get the Giants offense humming. First, the team has to hire a head coach. Afterwards, the dominoes will begin to fall.
