Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert played through multiple injuries in his team’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday afternoon, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.

Herbert is now dealing with a fractured bone in one of his fingers on his non-throwing hand. He also had a gruesome nail injury but he managed to power through, leading the Chargers to a 24-17 victory.

Luckily for the former first-round pick out of Oregon, L.A. has a Week 5 bye coming up. He’ll have two weeks to manage the injuries before the team hosts the Dallas Cowboys for a primetime Monday Night Football matchup.

Herbert threw an interception on the day, but so did rookie Raiders QB Aidan O’Connell who was starting for concussed QB Jimmy Garoppolo. His final stat line was 13-for-24, 167 passing yards, one interception, three touchdowns and 27 rushing yards. Two of his three scores came on the ground.

Last week, the Chargers notched their first win of the year, beating the Minnesota Vikings 28-24 in the fourth quarter. Herbert had 405 passing yards in the win, and three touchdown passes.

On the year, the former Oregon Ducks star is throwing completions at a 71% rate with 1,106 total passing yards, seven touchdowns, and one interception. He’s also taken nine sacks for a loss of 79 yards while adding 55 total rushing yards and three more scores.

Chargers’ Herbert not expected to miss time

This summer, the Chargers signed Herbert to a 5-year extension worth $262.5 million — topping the five-year, 260 million deal Lamar Jackson signed with the Baltimore Ravens. Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, the extension includes $133.7 million fully guaranteed, $193.7 million with the injury guarantee and springing potentially to $218.7 million guaranteed.

Chargers general manager Tom Telesco previously said this offseason that the Jackson contract among others wouldn’t necessarily serve as a blueprint for Herbert’s deal. As it turned out, Telesco topped any deal ever given out to a single player in the history of the NFL.

Herbert guided the Chargers to a 25-24 record and a playoff appearance in his first three years as the team’s starter. With 4,739 passing yards in 2022, Herbert passed former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck for the most passing yards through a player’s first three NFL seasons. He’s thrown for 14,089 yards with 94 touchdowns and 35 interceptions on 66.9% passing.
