NFL insider shares update on Micah Parsons, where contract extension stands with Cowboys

Micah Parsons and the Dallas Cowboys seem destined to come together on a new contract at some point. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler pointed out there’s a lull in the offseason due to this point in the summer, but this is par for the course.
Other big stars like Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb were already signed to their new contracts and Parsons is next. In fact, the insider made a point to say parsons in his prime, so Dallas would be more inclined to get a deal done.
But as NFL drama goes, it won’t be over fast. This is more of a slow burn situation for Parsons and Dallas.
“So this is kind of a relaxed situation,” Fowler said on SportsCenter. “You know, when I talk to the people involved, they’re like, look, it’s a lull in the summer right now, not a lot going on. People are on vacation. Team officials were out on the beach somewhere. Once they reconvene for training camp, Dallas will probably lock in on this a little bit more. Typically, they do their deals late in the calendar, you know, late August, early September. We’ve seen that with CeeDee Lamb, Dak Prescott, some of their other big deals.
“They are dedicated to doing this, though, and he’s almost a separate situation than those other two guys we just talked about, because they’re in their 30s or going on the third contract. (Parsons is) right in this prime, mid 20s dangerous player. So he’s going to get a massive number. Just depends on when they do it. Shouldn’t be a problem. The Cowboys got a lot to spend here.”

Parsons will be entering his fifth year with the Cowboys this fall. He has, in that time, justified himself as one of the best defensive players in the entire league, posting 256 tackles, 52.5 sacks, nine deflections, and four fumble recoveries, with one of those going for a score.
That averages out to 64 total tackles and 13.1 sacks per year for Dallas’ defense. With that, Parsons has been a Pro Bowler in each of his seasons while also being a First Team All-Pro as well as earning votes for Defensive Player of the Year and NFL MVP.
Dallas is going to sign Parsons to a massive deal at some point as one of the best players in the NFL. It just seems to be a matter of when at this point when it comes to the Cowboys.
