His injury designation came on Sept. 10, so he’s eyeing a Week 6 return at the earliest. While the injuries suffered are considered minor, it’s unclear whether the incident causes a setback to his status.
Thompson is currently in his fourth season in the NFL, his first with the Steelers. He spent his previous seasons in Miami playing for the Dolphins. Thompson has appeared in 10 games, throwing for 721 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He has not thrown a pass for the Steelers this season.
Most of that production came while filling in for Tua Tagovailoa in Miami, who has dealt with his fair share of injuries throughout his career. As a rookie during the 2022 season, Thompson saw extended playing time in four games during the regular season and even started under center during the Dolphins’ 34-31 AFC Wild Card loss to the Buffalo Bills.
