Nic Fink has officially medaled for the first time in his career.

Fink took part in the 100m breaststroke final earlier on Sunday during the 2024 Paris Olympics. Although Nicolo Martinenghi of Italy brough home the gold in the event, Fink tied with Adam Peaty from Great Britain to secure a silver medal for Team USA

Fink along with Martinenghi and Peaty were in a tight heat to finish this one out in the water. Martinenghi edged it out with a time of 59.03 while Fink and Peaty missed it by two hundredths of a seconds at 59.05. A pair of Germans in Melvin Imoudu and Lucas Materath placed fourth and fifth with times of 59.11 and 59.30 respectively.

Fink did a tad better in this event today than he did in its semifinals on Saturday. He swam a 59.16 earlier in the weekend to advance to this final.

This comes after Fink finished in fifth in the 200m breaststroke back in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Since then, he has built momentum towards Paris, including a gold medal in the world championships, which was the sixth of his career, going into these games.

Now, with one medal already coming home around his neck, Fink will get a chance to bring another from the pool. He will take part in the 4×100 medley relay for the Americans later on this week in France.

Carson Foster nabs bronze in Men’s 400m IM, France’s Leon Marchand wins gold

Carson Foster has won the bronze medal in the men’s 400-meter individual medley at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

Foster had a final time of 4:08:66 in the race. That was barely enough to make it to the podium in what was a tight race for third. With that, it was the 10th straight Olympics for the United States of America to a medal in the men’s 400-meter individual medley.

Leon Marchand, a French swimmer, took gold in the event on his home soil. Tomoyuki Matsushita, a Japanese swimmer, took the silver medal.

At 4:02:95, Marchand set the Olympic record for the event. The previous record was 4:03.84 and it had been set by the legendary Michael Phelps in Beijing during the 2008 Olympics.

Foster has previously competed at the Olympic trials for both the 2016 and the 2020 games, trying to make Team USA in the 400-meter IM. Now, he has a bronze medal in the event.
