Nick Chubb signs with Houston Texans: Contract details revealed

Nick Chubb is back for an eighth season in the NFL, signing a deal with the Houston Texans. Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the two sides agreed to terms over the weekend, and the veteran running back is getting a one-year, $2.5 million deal worth up to $5 million.
Chubb, 29, joins a crowded running back room which includes Joe Mixon, Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale and 2025 fourth-round pick Woody Marks. In his prime, Chubb was one of the best tailbacks in football.
He rushed for 6,843 yards and 51 touchdowns throughout his seven-year tenure with the Cleveland Browns. Chubb made four consecutive Pro Bowls from 2019-2022, earning Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2022. That season, he tallied a career-high 1,525 yards on the ground and 13 total touchdowns. But it was the last season in which he was healthy.
Chubb suffered a season-ending knee injury in Week 2 of the 2023 regular season. He returned in Week 7 this past campaign. Chubb, who averaged 5.3 yards per carry from 2018-2023, rushed for just 3.3 yards per carry in eight games. He broke his foot in Week 15, prematurely ending his season.

Nick Chubb says he’s ‘healthy now’ after battling multiple injuries the last two seasons
The Browns went in a different direction this offseason. They drafted Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson, pairing the talented duo with 2024 leading rusher Jerome Ford. Chubb is third on Cleveland’s all-time rushing list behind Pro Football Hall of Famers Jim Brown and Leroy Kelly.
Chubb feels ready to have a major bounce-back season in 2025. Before Super Bowl LIX, Brian Jones of On3 caught up with Chubb and asked him about his current health status after battling multiple injuries.
“I feel good and I’ve definitely been through a lot last two years,” Chubb told On3 in February. “So, I’m trying to bounce back. Things happen. I came back, broke my foot. It is what it is. I’m healthy now. New season, I have a full off-season. And I already have… I’m back to my training. So I’m feeling good, looking forward to getting healthy and getting back out there.”
