Odell Beckham Jr. was certainly discussed as a potential target for Aaron Rodgers and Green Bay, according to the reigning NFL MVP.

In his postgame press conference following the Packers’ 17-0 shutout of the Seattle Seahawks, Rodgers revealed there was interest in bringing Beckham to Green Bay but salary cap issues and logistics made it difficult to reach a deal.

“I think that we are obviously limited with our salary cap situation,” Rodgers said of pursuing Beckham.

“I’m not sure what he ended up signing for. I’ve been friends with Odell for a long time. And have so much respect for his talent and his ability. And, you know, I wish him the absolute best in L.A. I think there was a lot of conversations about bringing him in. And for whatever reason, it just wasn’t the right fit. But I feel good about the fact that we were in the mix, that there was conversations, and in the end I guess it just wasn’t the right fit.”

The three-time Pro Bowl receiver ultimately signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Beckham’s deal is worth up to $4.25 million. Beckham will receive a $500K signing bonus, $750K salary and up to $3 million in team-based incentives.

Was Odell Beckham Jr. was close to choosing Green Bay?

In typical Beckham fashion, there were conflicting reports on the day of his decision, creating madness and chaos in NFL media circles.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter said that Beckham is closing in on a deal with the Los Angeles Rams. However, other reports from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and CBS’ Josina Anderson said that Beckham could very well sign with the Rams, but he’s still “on the fence” and is deciding between the Rams and Green Bay Packers.

“From the beginning of the process, Odell Beckham Jr spotlighted the Packers and Rams as his top targets,” Rapoport tweeted. “Other teams tried, but in the end, it’s down to two. A tough decision, as Odell just told [NFL Networks Kim Jones]. The offers are somewhat similar.”

Ultimately, Odell Beckham Jr. opted for the Rams over the Packers because Los Angeles offered more money, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

“Packers made their push but remained at a minimum offer for Odell Beckham,” Fowler tweeted after the deal was finalized. “Chiefs brass, including Andy Reid, attempted to sell Beckham on Kansas City. But Los Angeles won out.”

It appears the Green Bay Packers came close and offered Beckham the No. 2 spot to Adams, but the cash, weather and allure of Hollywood were enough to seal the deal.
