This game serves as one with major intrigue to both teams. Kentucky upset a top-10 ranked Ole Miss 20-17 in Oxford during the 2024 season. Kentucky finished the year with four wins while the Rebels arguably finished one win away from the College Football Playoff. Lane Kiffin and company aren’t going to overlook to the Wildcats this season.
The Wildcats’ win over the Rebels was good for their first win in Oxford since 1978. The Rebels had a chance to tie the game during the final minute but hooked a field goal right. It was the highest-ranked victory for Kentucky of the Mark Stoops era, which began in 2012.
“It was our kind of game. A dirty, ugly, hard-fought game,” Stoops said at the time. “We went out and did what we had to do. We played our way. I know it’s only one game, but it was a very important game for us. Obviously, I could not be more proud of this team.”

Ole Miss was a two-touchdown favorite against Kentucky last season. Despite this, the Wildcats pulled out the improbable road victory against the No. 6-ranked team in the country.
Kiffin called the final score “beyond disappointing,” after the Wildcats took the lead late in regulation and never looked back. Now, Ole Miss has the opportunity to earn that win back on the Wildcats’ home turf in Week 2.
This will be the SEC opener for both teams as well, with Week 2 being early for a typical matchup in the Southeastern Conference. Getting off to a fast start to conference action is something both programs are eager to accomplish early this season.
For the second straight season, the Wildcats will look to beat the odds — this time on their own turf. Meanwhile, the Rebels will be glad to play spoiler to Kentucky inside Kroger Field. With a national audience on ABC, many will be curious to see if Kiffin and company can avoid tripping up in Lexington.
