Omarion Hampton injury update: Chargers star leaves game after getting tripped on route

Los Angeles Chargers running back Omarion Hampton exited Sunday afternoon’s game against the Washington Commanders due to an ankle injury. Hampton suffered the injury in the third quarter.
The running back faked taking a handoff and then started to run off on a route before being tripped up by a defender. Hampton came up limping and went to the sidelines to be checked out by the Chargers training staff. He is considered questionable to return, per the team.
Unfortunately, Hampton never returned to the game as the Chargers went on to lose 27-10. Daniel Popper of The Athletic reported postgame that the running back was seen with a boot on his left ankle.
The rookie out of North Carolina finished with 12 carries for 44 yards. He also caught all six for his targets in the passing game for 26 yards.

Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal are both candidates to see increased roles if Hampton is forced to miss any serious time. The pair combined for nine carries and 31 yards on Sunday against the Commanders.
The Chargers are also dealing with a number of injuries to their offensive line, so Hampton’s health will be a key concern heading into next week. LA faces the Miami Dolphins at 1 p.m. ET next Sunday.
