The Chicago Street Race ended up with fireworks on Fourth of July weekend. Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman got into it on track. Fighting for a position in the top-10, the two NASCAR drivers were trading paint for multiple corners until push finally came to shove.

Laps were winding down, and drivers were looking for any extra spots or points they could muster. Bubba Wallace was on older tires. Alex Bowman had fresher tires. So, something had to give between the two.

With these two having a run-in last year at Chicago, it is interesting to see it happen yet again. This split screen of their onboard cameras gives us another angle that we haven’t seen of the wreck, yet.

This spin happened during a crucial point in the race. It completely killed Wallace’s day. Alex Bowman managed to get a P8 finish in the end. But even he fell back after this with the damage he sustained in the battle.

Everyone on NASCAR social media thought that this was going to result in a heated confrontation. Well, not so much. Last year, if you remember, a similar incident happened in the rain. Bowman spun the 23 around and killed his run. So, surely, after a second time, something was bound to pop off on pit road, right?

Bubba Wallace and Alex Bowman appear to laugh off controversy

Despite having a top-10 finish taken from him in this moment, Bubba Wallace was not very confrontational when he spoke to Alex Bowman after the race. The conversation wasn’t audibly captured on video, but the interaction seemed friendly enough.

In fact, the two seemed to be laughing it all off. For Wallace, it would have been his best finish since Michigan when he was P4. He now has four finishes of P12, P36, P22, and P28 in the last four races at the most important point in the season.

I’m not sure if this is going to be a controversy. Does Bubba Wallace have anything to actually be upset about in that situation? He was defending his position not just against Alex Bowman, but a group of cars behind him. Walalce was also on older tires than many of the cars lurking just off his bumper at this point in the race.

So, Wallace got aggressive. He did put Bowman in the wall, which the Hendrick driver pointed out on the TV broadcast. The 23 was playing bumper cars on each turn. It was thrilling to watch as fans, but Bowman rightfully got sick of it, and put an end to it. Of course, Wallace coming across his nose exiting the turn didn’t help much, either.
