One of college football’s top rivalries is set to take place on Saturday. The South Carolina Gamecocks welcome the Clemson Tigers to town, renewing the Palmetto Bowl. Not as much may be on the line as we thought heading into the season, but as usual with in-state showdowns, both teams want this one badly.

According to BetMGM, the Gamecocks are a 2.5-point favorite over the Tigers. The over/under for the matchup is set at 46.5

Both teams come into this one fresh off wins, beating FCS opponents. Clemson took down Furman, while South Carolina took care of business against Coastal Carolina. The intensity gets cranked up a dial or two on Saturday afternoon.

South Carolina currently sits at 4-7 overall, meaning a bowl game is not possible. Certainly not what Shane Beamer had in mind coming in, wanting to contend for the College Football Playoff. But he firmly believes the Gamecocks will be in such position next year, maybe getting a jump start by beating Clemson.

Speaking of Dabo Swinney‘s club, they did get a sixth win with the Furman win. Swinney, and many outsiders, also thought his team might be in the CFP race when this game came around. Instead, pure bragging rights are on the line for them at this point. Getting a rivalry win would take off some of the sting endured throughout the year.

All we can hope for is a fun one from Williams-Brice Stadium. Recent seasons tell us we will.
