Park Avenue Shooting: Roger Goodell provides update on NFL employee injured during attack

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell provided most recent update on Craig Clementi, the NFL employee who was injured during the shooting that occurred at the NFL headquarters in midtown Manhattan on Monday. Goodell shared some good news about his condition.
“It’s just heartbreaking for all of us, devastating,” Goodell told NBC’s Mike Tirico ahead of the 2025 Hall of Fame Game. “Our employee, I saw yesterday in the hospital is stable and improving. Got to spend about an hour with him and is an amazing young man. We’re optimistic about his recovery, and I think that’s good news for all of us in the NFL, and obviously our hearts continue to be in support with their family.
“He has a young family, and I had a chance to meet his brother and parents. I think it’s something that is really hard for all of us to understand and to deal with.”
Clementi was one of several inside 345 Park Avenue who fell victim to the tragic incident brought forth by 27-year-old Shane Tamura. Tamura was identified as the gunman on Monday who killed four people during the tragedy.
Among those killed was NYPD officer Didarul Islam, who was working paid detail at the building at the time of the shooting. Thousands attended his funeral on Thursday in New York City, including Goodell. He called the loss “tremendous,” for the community.

Goodell sent a memo to NFL employees following Monday’s event. There, he detailed the heroic effort shown by Clementi, which included him reportedly telling other NFL employees to evacuate the building and stay safe.
Goodell said in his memo that NFL was supporting Clementi, although the latter was not identified in the memo by name. In the coming weeks, there will be enhanced security protocols implemented within the building after the Park Avenue shooting.
“We’re going to put our employees as our primary focus, but we think we can also continue to bring our country together around our game, and I think that will be healing, hopefully, for our employees,” Goodell said. “But also remember, this attack is far more than on several individuals. This is an attack on humanity, an attack on our communities, an attack on New York.
“This is an attack on our way of life. All of us have to do more and make sure that we’re doing everything to get help to people who need help, and also to take the necessary precautions.”
