Patrick Mahomes injury update: Chiefs QB diagnosis, return timeline revealed, per report

Kansas City Chiefs (13-1) quarterback Patrick Mahomes injured his left leg in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 21-7 Week 15 road victory over the Cleveland Browns (3-11).
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, Mahomes sustained a high-ankle sprain and is “probably” week-to-week. X-rays were negative on Mahomes’ ankle.
“It’s not broken, it’s sore,” head coach Andy Reid said.
Mahomes was hit high and low and appeared to be sandwiched between defenders. He was later seen getting tape on his left ankle on the sideline prior to the next drive. Carson Wentz replaced him under center and finished out the game for Kansas City. Before exiting the game, Mahomes completed 19-of-38 passes for 159 yards and two touchdowns.

Patrick Mahomes injured in Week 15 win over Browns
Mahomes left the locker room on a cart after the game, as captured by Taylor Kauffman of KMBC.
Mahomes’ injury comes at a time where the Chiefs play three games in a span of 11 days. Kansas City hosts the Houston Texans (9-5) this Saturday before going on the road against the Pittsburgh Steelers (10-3) on Christmas Day.
Mahomes previously rolled his ankle in the Week 9 home win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (7-6) on Nov. 4. The three-time Super Bowl champion did not miss any time. Mahomes played through a high-ankle sprain in the 2022 playoffs, a season which ended with the Chiefs hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
