Former Penn State star Jahan Dotson and Washington Commanders quarterback Carson Wentz connected for the game-winning touchdown on Sunday afternoon versus the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The score was the duo’s second touchdown connection of the day, and it’s a good sign for the Commanders’ season moving forward. Dotson was the No. 16 overall pick in a 2022 NFL Draft class that was full of impressive first-round receivers.

Down 22-20 with less than two minutes to play, Wentz stood in the pocket and delivered a perfect 24-yard strike to a well-covered Dotson in the left-front corner of the endzone.

The rookie receiver helped his team notch their first win of the 2022 season, however, he wasn’t even close to leading the team in catches on Sunday. He had two touchdowns on a three-catch, five-target day. He had 40 total yards, which was fifth amongst the Commanders’ pass-catchers. Washington is now 1-0 on the year after finishing the game 28-22 at home.

Dotson delivers two-touchdown performance in rookie debut

Dotson hauled in his first-career NFL touchdown earlier on Sunday afternoon versus the Jacksonville Jaguars. The rookie ran to the back of the endzone on a run fake and went airborne for the TD grab on 2nd and 6.

The Commanders loved what they saw from Dotson at the NFL combine. The 5-foot-11, 178-pound wideout ran a blistering 4.43-second 40-yard dash. He had his best season in his final year with 1,182 yards and 12 scores. For his 91-reception performance, he earned third-team Associated Press All-American and second-team All-Big Ten accolades.

“Very precise route runner, excellent hands, very sharp, very smart young man, hard worker — has done all the things you need to do to feel good about (him),” Rivera said of Dotson this summer.
