The Philadelphia Eagles and head coach Nick Sirianni agreed on a multi-year contract extension, the team announced Monday. Sirianni is fresh off leading the Eagles to a win in Super Bowl LIX.

Sirianni was named the head coach in 2021 after serving as the offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts. He is 48-20 in four years, making the playoffs all four years and appearing in two Super Bowls.

This year, two years after a Super Bowl LVII loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, Sirianni led Philadelphia back to the “Big Game.” This time, the Eagles dominated 40-22 to capture the franchise’s second Super Bowl win.

“As an organization, we have always strived to create a championship culture of sustained success,” Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie said in a statement. “Nothing is more important to fostering such an environment than having tremendous leadership. Nick has embodied everything we were looking for in a head coach since we hired him four years ago. His authentic style of leadership, football intelligence, passion for the game, and growth mindset have helped to bring out the best in our team. I am excited for what the future holds for the Philadelphia Eagles.”

When Sirianni was hired, there were questions about the Eagles’ choice. Sirianni’s awkward introductory press conference made the entire city of Philadelphia worried and the rest of the NFL fanbases poking fun.

After a 2-5 start to his first year, the Eagles went 7-3 down the stretch to make the playoffs under Sirianni and second-year QB Jalen Hurts. After an NFC Wild Card loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sirianni proved he could get things done, but there were questions about Hurts.

In Year 2, Sirianni and the Eagles dominated their way to a 14-3 record, Hurts quieted doubters and Philadelphia made it to Super Bowl LVII. Hurts outplayed Patrick Mahomes on the stat sheet, but the Eagles lost 38-35 after blowing a 24-14 halftime lead.

In 2023, the Eagles wanted to run it back and raced out to a 10-1 start. However, they lost five of six to end the year and once again lost to the Bucs in the Wild Card round to end the campaign.

The team seemed to regress and there were questions about Sirianni’s immediate future as head coach, especially when there were reports of tension between him and Hurts. But, whatever hatchets were out there were buried and 2024 proved to be the culmination of Philly’s investment.

Solid drafting and the signing of Saquon Barkley led to arguably the best season in franchise history. Sirianni and the Eagles were 2-2 to start, but finished 14-3 and earned the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. After beating Green Bay, Los Angeles and Washington in the NFC playoffs, the Eagles had a rematch with the Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX.

Sirianni and the Eagles ended up celebrating early. They held a 24-0 lead at halftime and led 40-6 in the fourth quarter and the celebration and Gatorade bath were on. Sirianni and the Eagles will now look to win back to back Super Bowl titles in 2025-26, becoming only the third franchise this century to do so.
