Pittsburgh Steelers at New York Jets: Inactives set for Week 1

Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season is upon us, and while many players are gearing up for their season opener, others will be on the sideline due to injury. For the Week 1 matchup between the Steelers and Jets, several players on both sides found themselves on their team’s injury report.
Before the inactives list was revealed, the Steelers ruled out rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon while Esa Pole received the same designation from the Jets. Cameron Heyward for the Steelers was on the injury report at one time but was resting. He’s full-go. Meanwhile, Jets star CB Sauce Gardner was cleared to play after being a light participant in practice on Wednesday nursing an injury to his fibula.
Now, the full list has been revealed ahead of the highly-anticipated season opener between Pittsburgh and New York. Read it below:
DT Derrick Harmon
QB Skylar Thompson
OL Andrus Peat
OL Max Scharping
OLB Nick Herbig
DL Esezi Otomewo
Jets:
WR Allen Lazard
OT Esa Pole
EDGE Braiden McGregor
TE Jelani Woods
DL Leonard Taylor II
While both teams will miss the players who were ruled out, Sunday’s matchup has quite the intriguing storyline attached to it. The game will feature starting quarterbacks who spent last season on the opposing team. Aaron Rodgers spent the last two seasons with the Jets and Justin Fields had a pitstop in Pittsburgh one year ago alongside Russell Wilson, who is now the quarterback for the New York Giants.

Rodgers signed with the Steelers ahead of training camp, ending a several-month stay in free agency while rumors circulated where he may go. Pittsburgh was always a top choice. For Fields, he inked a two-year deal with New York in March and is their QB1 to start the season despite splitting time with Wilson last season in Pittsburgh.
Neither team is 100%, but both franchise will have their key players on the field on Sunday — including their quarterbacks. That being said, the Steelers enter game day as the favorites to defeat the Jets on opening weekend.
Pittsburgh is a three-point betting favorite over New York. The over/under is set at 38 points. All odds are courtesy of BetMGM.
The matchup, regardless of outcome, is sure to have fans tuned in for the storyline alone. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET and will air live on CBS from inside MetLife Stadium. The Steelers will take on the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, while the Jets stay home an host the Buffalo Bills.
