The Pittsburgh Steelers have reportedly come to an agreement with new cornerback addition William Jackson III. Pittsburgh will no longer have to pay Jackson the rest of his per-game roster bonuses, which amount to $44,000 a game, according to Field Yates.

The Steelers will still pay their new secondary piece the rest of his base salary, which is $2.77 million. Due to the agreement, the cap hit is now $350,000 less than it would have been.

On Tuesday, after sending wideout Chase Claypool to the Bears, the organization announced they’d acquired Jackson from the Commanders. The two teams swapped late-round picks in the deal. The Commanders sent a 2025 conditional seventh-round pick to Pittsburgh on Tuesday in exchange for a 2025 conditional sixth-round pick.

The Steelers hold a $12.75M option on Jackson for 2023. They’ll have to decide on the option by March 17th, when a $2.5M roster bonus comes due.

Jackson is a former first-round pick out of Houston. He went No. 24 overall to the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2016 NFL Draft.

William Jackson is dealing with a back injury that has him questionable for Week 9 action. The Pittsburgh Steelers have the week off thanks to the bye but get back in action versus the New Orleans Saints on Nov. 13.

Steelers part with Chase Claypool

Pittsburgh is receiving a second-round pick for Chase Claypool, who has 311 yards and a touchdown this season — his third in the NFL. Last week against the Philadelphia Eagles, he had four receptions for 45 yards as the Steelers fell 35-13.

Now, he’s heading to Chicago, where he’ll try to help boost a struggling wide receiver corps to work with quarterback Justin Fields. Pittsburgh drafted Claypool in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft after four years at Notre Dame, where he played alongside Bears tight end Cole Kmet. He was also an NFL All-Rookie Team selection when he totaled 873 yards and nine touchdowns in his first year in the league.
