The Pittsburgh Steelers just needed to run out the clock to beat the Cleveland Browns on Monday night. Apparently, Steelers running back Najee Harris didn’t get the memo.

Well, actually, he did. He just ignored it.

The Pittsburgh rookie and former Alabama standout broke away for a 37-yard touchdown with 51 seconds left to ice the AFC North showdown Monday night. Pittsburgh was leading 19-14 and didn’t necessarily need the score, but it was some nice insurance.

But because of that late lead, veteran quarterback Ben Roethlisberger didn’t necessarily want Harris to go for the end zone on the play. Harris had other plans, though.

“He told me to get down,” Harris said of Roethlisberger. “I didn’t get down. … He said, ‘Just get what you can and protect the ball.'”

Even the players on the bench were calling for Harris to play it safe. Again, he knew what he wanted to do.

“On the sideline, everyone was like ‘Get down,'” Harris said. “I was like, ‘No.'”

It was part of a monster night for Harris, who had 188 total yards in addition to the score to lead Pittsburgh to the 26-14 victory in what was likely Roethlisberger’s last home game. The win kept the Steelers in playoff contention — but a few things still need to happen for that to become reality.

Pittsburgh now has to get ready for a Week 18 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens. If the Steelers win, the Indianapolis Colts lose and the Los Angeles Chargers don’t tie with the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday Night Football, they’re in the playoffs.

It’s a lot to hope for. But it’s the NFL. Anything can happen on any given Sunday, right?

Najee Harris breaks Steelers record with this massive run

Pittsburgh Steelers rookie running back Najee Harris is now officially a part of Steelers lore. On Monday night against AFC North rival, the Cleveland Browns, Harris passed Steelers great Franco Harris for the most rushing yards by a rookie running back.

Franco Harris set the record back in 1972 with 1,055 yards. Najee has eclipsed the mark in 17 games and he still has one more game left on the season to extend his new personal record.

What makes the record-breaking run that much more sweeter is the fashion in which he did it. As he breaks towards the sideline, Najee Harris delivers a massive stiff-arm to cornerback M.J Stewart and proceeds to hurdle over the tumbling body of Stewart. Harris would be tackled by Grant Delpit after breaking that 30-yard run.
