Powerboat lands full backflip at 200 mph

It’s summer, and with that comes a lot of people who want to spend time on the water in everything from a kayak to a powerboat.
Of course, most people won’t be going out on the water in a powerboat capable of doing a backflip at 200 mph. However, at the Madison Regatta, boats with that type of capability are the appeal. There, during the final heat of the 2023 Indiana Governor’s Cup, driver Dustin Echols flipped his powerboat while going 200 mph.
Watch that insane backflip, here:
It takes a special kind of person who is comfortable going that fast in a boat, let alone a boat capable of making that backflip. At the same time, it doesn’t seem like the powerboat was designed to flip like that, but it was going so fast that it still managed to make the move.
Echols seemed to maintain his composure, avoid what could have been a disaster, and continue on with the race.
The Madison Regatta has been held annually for 73 years along the Ohio River. It is described as one of the largest hydroplane races in the country and is held alongside a music festival and other events. The race this powerboat flipped in was the final heat of the Indiana Governor’s Cup.

Luckily, it was reported that Echols was not seriously injured by the flip.
Denny Hamlin on NASCAR returning to Chicago
Following the NASCAR Cup Series’ Grant Park 220 Chicago Street Race Sunday, Denny Hamlin said he can’t wait to return to Chicago.
“I couldn’t believe how many people were there. It’s pouring rain, there’s absolutely not a soul there for our intros. I mean, a hundred people I felt like were maybe there. All of a sudden we walk out to get in our cars and it’s like ‘Oh, it’s filling up here. They’re starting to file in. And at the end of the race, I get out of the car and the stands are full. I was like wow. People were committed. Definitely committed to going and that just tells you the enthusiasm at that whole place,” Hamlin said.
“We were trying something new and I thought it was a huge success. I really look forward to having the opportunity to come back next year… It seemed like they [Chicago] were really excited to have us there. Definitely hope that we’re able to keep this going for the next two years.”
