On Tuesday, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce left fans slack-jawed when they announced their engagement to the world. The news spread everywhere, including to the White House. Shortly after Swift’s announcement, President Donald Trump reacted to the news.

“Well, I wish them a lot of luck,” Trump said. “I think he’s a great player. I think he’s a great guy. And, I think she’s a terrific person. So, I wish them a lot of luck.”

Trump’s well wishes for Swift on Tuesday were a stark contrast from his response to the pop star endorsing presidential candidate Kamala Harris last year. On Truth Social, Trump wrote, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”

Trump doubled down on his disdain for Swift in May, writing, “Has anyone noticed that, since I said ‘I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT,’ she’s no longer ‘HOT?'” As of this report, Swift’s announcement post on Instagram already has garnered over 17 million likes.

Kelce’s history with Trump isn’t nearly as tumultuous. When Kelce was informed Trump would be attending the Super Bowl earlier this year, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end responded respectfully.

“That’s awesome. It’s a great honor,” Kelce said. “I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know I’m excited because it’s the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, it’s the best country in the world. So, that’d be pretty cool.”

This isn’t the first time Swift and Kelce have made headlines this month. On Aug. 13, Taylor Swift nearly broke the internet when she appeared on the Kelce brothers’ podcast, New Heights.

The podcast had a record-shattering 1.3 million concurrent viewers on YouTube when it aired. Moreover, the episode boasts more than 380 million views on Instagram, 61.6 million views on X, 34.5 million views on TikTok and nearly 21 million views on YouTube.

Swift’s long-awaited appearance on New Heights marked her podcast debut, as she joined her new fiancé to announce her next album. The Life of a Showgirl will release Oct. 3. Swift also unveiled the track list during her appearance.

Kelce and Swift began dating in 2023. Their relationship first became public when Swift attended one of Kelce’s games that September and sat with the three-time Super Bowl champion’s mother.

Kelce and Swift are each 35 years old. Evidently, President Donald Trump hopes the ultra-popular pair have a long and prosperous future ahead of them.
