President Donald Trump is an avid sports fan, and while he’s been critical of the NFL at times over the last couple of years, he wants to get involved with one franchise in a big way. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Trump wants the Washington Commanders to name their new stadium after him.

“President Donald Trump wants the Washington Commanders to name their planned $3.7 billion stadium after him, multiple sources with knowledge of the situation told ESPN,” Schefter posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday.

The new stadium will certainly be a sight to behold, and the President of the United States wants to be part of the fun, it seems. Perhaps Trump and the Commanders brass can talk it over this weekend, as the President will be in attendance for Washington’s clash with the Detroit Lions, per Pat McAfee.

“Sources are telling me that President Donald Trump will be in attendance for this Washington Commanders game in the afternoon against the Detroit Lions,” McAfee said on Friday’s edition of ‘The Pat McAfee Show.’ “He will actually be there to celebrate the Veterans’ Celebration that is taking place at halftime. He’ll be sitting in owner Josh Harris‘ box and he’ll be excited to celebrate the hell out of the greatest sport on earth, American football.”

Currently in the midst of his second tenure as President, Trump has attended the Super Bowl, the Daytona 500, the US Open, the FIFA Club World Cup Final and the Ryder Cup in recent years. As the government shutdown continues, the 45th & 47th President of the United States will seemingly add Northwest Stadium to his fan card.

“We are honored to welcome President Trump to the game as we celebrate those who have served and continue to serve our country,” Commanders Team President Mark Clouse said in a statement. “The entire Commanders organization is proud to participate in the NFL’s league-wide Salute to Service initiative, recognizing the dedication and sacrifice of our nation’s veterans, active-duty service members, and their families this Sunday.”

Whether or not it leads to something like Donald Trump Stadium in Washington remains to be seen. The Commanders aren’t having the best season at the moment, so they’ll be looking ahead to the future anyway, unless the team makes a miraculous turnaround with Marcus Mariota leading the ship.
