Puka Nacua injury update: Sean McVay reveals Rams WR undergoing scan after exit vs. Saints

Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua is set to undergo further evaluation after sustaining a rib injury during Sunday’s 34-10 win over the New Orleans Saints. Head coach Sean McVay shared an update on Monday, saying the team remains optimistic despite Nacua’s exit.
“Head coach Sean McVay said that Nacua is scheduled to have a scan on the rib injury he sustained in Sunday’s 34-10 win over the Saints, but the Rams remain ‘optimistic’ that the wideout won’t miss any time, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports,” CBS Sports relayed on Monday.
Nacua headed to the locker room in the second half after appearing to take a shot to the midsection. At the time of his departure, he had been one of the most productive players on the field, hauling in seven passes for 95 yards and a touchdown as Los Angeles built a commanding 27-10 lead entering the fourth quarter.
The standout receiver, who had just returned from an ankle injury suffered in Week 6, did not return to the game. However, he was later seen back on the sidelines with his teammates as the Rams closed out their dominant victory. McVay told reporters afterward that Nacua could have re-entered the game if the score had been closer, suggesting the injury wasn’t viewed as serious.

Through the first half of the 2025 season, Nacua has continued to solidify his reputation as one of the NFL’s brightest young receivers. He’s totaled 54 catches for 616 yards and two touchdowns through six games, following in the footsteps of his historic rookie campaign in which he earned a Pro Bowl selection and Second-Team All-Pro honors in 2023.
Over the course of his career with Los Angeles, the 24-year-old has amassed 238 receptions for 3,092 yards and 11 touchdowns. His blend of consistency, toughness and big-play ability has made him a cornerstone of McVay’s offense alongside quarterback Matthew Stafford, especially since Cooper Kupp’s departure..
The Rams will look to carry their momentum into a pivotal Week 10 showdown with the San Francisco 49ers. That matchup could play a major role in shaping the NFC West standings, and offer a chance at redemption after Los Angeles fell 26-23 to the Niners earlier this season. Kickoff at Levi’s Stadium is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET next Sunday.
