Quinshon Judkins domestic violence charge: NFL releases initial comment on Browns RB arrest

On Saturday, Cleveland Browns running back Quinshon Judkins was arrested in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery, according to a statement from the Fort Lauderdale Police. On Sunday, NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy declined to provide further details on Judkins’ arrest.
“We are aware of the matter, but will decline further comment,” McCarthy said, per Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot.
Judkins was in Broward County Jail late Saturday night and was scheduled to appear before a judge on Sunday, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The Fort Lauderdale Police released a statement, detailing Judkins’ arrest.
“On July 12th, at approximately 9 a.m., Fort Lauderdale Police Officers responded to the 1500 block of West Cypress Creek Road in reference to a delayed battery,” the Fort Lauderdale Police Department Media Relations statement read, per Oyefusi. “Officers arrived on scene and spoke with the victim.
“During their preliminary investigation it was determined a battery had occurred. The officers made contact with the suspect and placed him into custody. He was transported to Broward County Main Jail. The suspect has been identified as Quinshon Judkins, DOB 10/29/2003 and has been charged with Misdemeanor Battery (Domestic) FSS 784.03-1a1.”
On April 24, the Cleveland Browns selected Quinshon Judkins with the No. 36 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. After transferring to Ohio State last season, Judkins was pivotal in the Buckeyes winning their first national title since 2014.
In the 2024 campaign, Judkins tallied 1,060 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns. He was also a receiving threat and hauled in 22 passes for 161 yards and two scores. He was named an All-Big Ten Third-Team selection for his efforts.

Before transferring to Ohio State, Judkins had two standout seasons at Ole Miss. He eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark in each of his seasons with the Rebels and was particularly spectacular during his debut campaign in 2022.
He was the 2022 SEC Freshman of the Year and an All-SEC First-Team member in 2022 and ’23. Notably, Judkins hasn’t signed his rookie contract yet with the Browns. Thus, his future with the team will be something to keep an eye on moving forward.
Judkins was a released on $2,500 bail on Sunday, per CBS News Miami. The judge reportedly ordered him not to be in contact with the victim and have no access to a firearm.
The Browns training camp will begin on July 25. Preseason games will begin shortly after, starting on Aug. 8. Finally, the Browns will kick off their regular season on Sept. 1 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
